Mission Statement

BookReads.com is the online version of the newsletter BookReads, which was started in 1999. We decided to go online to save costs and to reach a larger audience. BookReads.com’s goal is to bring readers intelligent and well-written reviews of not only some of the latest titles available, but also of interesting books that may have taken a backseat to current bestsellers. We know that many of those who appreciate great literature often return to the classics—some they read in school, some they never seemed to have gotten around to—and we strive to include these books in our list of those to be reviewed. Our mission is simple: Bring the best in literature to our readers with honest and well thought-out recommendations. You’ll rarely see us give a book a terrible review—if we genuinely don’t like it, it simply won’t get written up unless one of our reviewers really makes a case. Still, we will try to point out the merits or flaws in a work so that our audience gets an idea of the direction that particular book is attempting to take. Another goal we aspire to is focusing on books that came out a year or so ago. This seems to be something that other sites don’t aspire to and we wanted to be different. It’s interesting to see how a book has held up after its initial release and after the hype has died down. While so many review sites try to focus on what’s coming out tomorrow, we’re interested instead in what’s really good today and what has stood the test of time. With so much great literature out there, you might have missed a sensational book ten years ago, and we aspire to bring it to your attention. We hope you’ll keep BookReads.com in mind the next time you’re looking for a thought-provoking and intelligent book to read.
